The Main Rules Stay the Same

Even if you live overseas, you still need:

  • a NOIM
  • one calendar month notice unless lawfully shortened
  • identity and supporting documents
  • two witnesses for the marriage
  • everyone there in person for the marriage itself

Signing the NOIM Overseas

If you sign the NOIM outside Australia, it must be witnessed by an authorised person such as:

  • an Australian diplomatic officer
  • an Australian consular officer
  • a notary public

Good Planning Advice
