Overseas Residents Getting Married in Perth
What overseas residents need to know about getting married in Perth, including notice, witnessing, documents, and being in Australia for the marriage.
You do not need to be an Australian citizen or permanent resident to get married in Perth.
The Main Rules Stay the Same
Even if you live overseas, you still need:
- a NOIM
- one calendar month notice unless lawfully shortened
- identity and supporting documents
- two witnesses for the marriage
- everyone there in person for the marriage itself
Signing the NOIM Overseas
If you sign the NOIM outside Australia, it must be witnessed by an authorised person such as:
- an Australian diplomatic officer
- an Australian consular officer
- a notary public
Good Planning Advice
If you are travelling to Australia to marry, start early:
- click Get Married
