An overseas marriage is usually recognised in Australia if:

  • it was valid where it took place, and
  • it is not a kind of marriage that Australian law would refuse to recognise

Do You Register It Again in Australia?

Usually no. A marriage that was already validly performed overseas is not usually registered again in Australia.
