No. You cannot complete the marriage itself online in Australia.
What Has to Happen in Person
The marriage must happen in person.
That means:
- both parties must be there
- the celebrant must be there
- two witnesses must be there
Before the marriage, the celebrant must also meet each party separately in person.
What Can Be Done Remotely
A lot of the preparation can still be done remotely:
- complete the booking form
- prepare the NOIM using NOIM Easy
- email through scanned documents for checking
- ask questions by email
In some cases, the witnessing of NOIM signatures can also be done by audio-visual communication where the law allows.
The Simple Version
You can do a lot of the paperwork before the appointment, but the actual marriage still has to happen in person.
