The Certificate You Receive on the Day
You receive a certificate on the day of the marriage.
It is good to keep as a record of the marriage, but for many government and admin tasks people usually need the official certificate from WA Births, Deaths and Marriages.
The Official Marriage Certificate
The official marriage certificate is ordered from WA Births, Deaths and Marriages after the marriage has been registered.
People usually need it for:
- name changes
- passport applications
- visa or immigration paperwork
- formal proof of marriage
Who Orders It?
Usually the couple orders it directly from WA BDM after the marriage has been registered.
